Homeless Ministries at Christ Church
The Warming Shelter: Once again Christ Church is hosting Alameda's Homeless Warming Shelter. Episcopal Community Services will provide overnight staffing and expertise, and Christ Church will organize dozens of volunteers for meals, showers and other services. The City of Alameda provides roughly two/thirds of the funding and Christ Church sources the rest. The shelter will open on December 1 in our Parish Hall and run through March 31, operating only during the night. From December 22-January 4 the shelter will move to Trinity Lutheran Church, and from February 10-24 it will reside at Twin Towers United Methodist Church. Please check back for opportunities to get involved.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, we would like to offer Christmas gift bags so that our shelter guests will have something to open up on Christmas morning. Click HERE to access wish list which will be updated until Christmas. This list is different from the Supply List linked in the next paragraph.
Volunteers are needed to provide meals, program supplies and weekly showers for our guests. Dinner is served every evening and breakfast bags are given to guests as they leave at 7:00 am. Click HERE to volunteer to provide meals; click HERE to purchase Program Supplies. To sign up to support the Shower Program for Shelter guests only on Thursday evenings, contact the office at office@christchurchalameda.org.
